This illustration highlights the diversity of mathematics and its links to our environment. The childlike aesthetic of the image, similar to a seek-and-find game, is a deliberate choice to attract the attention of a wide audience.
Mathematics is intrinsically present in nature, as evidenced by the geometric shapes of shells, sunflowers, ferns, and the hexagons of honeycombs. Conversely, nature is a source of mathematical inspiration and has led to the development of models such as predator-prey dynamics, river flow, and resource management. The randomness observed in nature, such as in population dynamics, has its own mathematical theory.
Here we present a world, our world and yours, in which the most diverse mathematics are omnipresent. It is this mathematics, applied to the major contemporary issues of democracy, climate, health and biodiversity, that will be useful to future generations, and that we want to promote.
The richness of mathematics and the way it is interwoven into our environment, even in the most fundamental aspects of the discipline, are reflected in this illustration.
